Hydro-Lazing Services:
The Hydro-lazing process has provided a
unique service in and around Petrol – Chemical Industry.
This process allows the removal of material from the
piping in a safe productive environment.
Unlike Hydro-blasting
the Hydro-lazing process has a mechanical feed device
controlling the speed and assuring the accuracy of
100% coverage to the Internal Diameter of the pipe
or tube.
This process reduces the mechanical
activity needed to clean the inlet and outlet piping
of the heater, process feed lines to the drum, vapor
lines and other problem areas in the facility. Hydro-lazing
process has proven successful and is approximately
30% more efficient with 100% coverage to the internal
diameter to the tube or pipe apposed to conventional
high pressure cleaning.
Hydro-lazing technology allows the cutting tip to
rotate on the I.D. tube wall surgically removing the
material from the I.D. and then flushing the material
back to the entry point for removal.
This Process has been used to clean and restore piping
back to normal I.D. for thousands of feet of pipe
from 2" to 24" plugged solid due to a fire
and power outage. This project was completed without
equipment delays or safety issues over a 45 day duration,
working around the clock seven days a week.
This particular project consumed approximately 40,000'
of Hydro-lazed pipe. The project was managed with
experienced FSI project managers for the duration
of the project providing complete satisfaction to
the customer.
Hydro-lazing Process:
What is Hydro-lazing ?
Hydro lazing is a process of high pressure water jetting
that concentrates a high volume of water (42gpm to
50gpm)onto a narrow surface area at high pressure
(14,000psi to15,000psi) while rotating along the inner
diameter of the pipe being cleaned. This combination
enables the hydro-lazing equipment to travel several
hundred and in some circumstances up to 1500’ while
negotiating multiple 90 degree bends in some circumstances
up to 15. By riding the pipe id, Hydro-lazing reduces
the distance between the cutting force and the cleaning
surface to 0 thereby maximizing the cutting force
being applied to the material being cleaned.
The Equipment:
The hydro-laze unit is on a 48’ x
96” trailer which holds a 20’ sea container which
houses the high pressure pump and the 600hp diesel
engine.
The Pump and Engine:
The high pressure pump is driven by 600hp diesel engine
and pushes approximately 50gpm at 15,000psi.
The Rotating Hose Device and Feed Mechanism:
The water is pushed from the high pressure pump to
the rotating hose
device (left) which drives the hose through the feed
mechanism (right)
and into the entry point. The feed mechanism controls
the spiral and
assists with both the forward and reverse feed.
Pipe Entrance and Water Containment :
Hydro-lazing can use a variety of entry points such
as flanges, valves, and drains.
A minimum 2” opening is required for all large bore
piping. Catch basins and sheeting
are used to contain and capture the egress water.
For re-circulation processes, electric
pumps and gas pumps will be used to transport the
water from the containment
back to the holding tank.
The Material:
The hydro-lazing process will remove mill scale and
loose debris such as
welding rods, grinding wheels, etc. which will collect
in the catch basins
and holding tank. It is also used in removing calcium
carbonate, coke,
bauxite, liquor, concrete, rubber and other encrustations
found on pipe.
The Results:
The final results for chrome or carbon steel pipe
is a smooth even surface.
The resulting flash rust will be instantly removed
during the confirmation
process of flushing or blowing depending upon system.
Flushes and
Blows have been proven to be significantly reduced.
Steam and air blows
reduced by 66% to 75%. Cooling water flushes reach
NAS 10 and below
in 5 to 7days.
